Biskra, Algeria, Sep 12, 2018

Consent form sent to parents from a school in Biskra city, northeastern Algeria,  asking them to approve or refuse teaching their kids Tamazight language. This unexpected move came just nearly two years after the Algerian government announced the official implementation of Tamazight language in the new constitution as the country’s official national language, meaning that it not only can be taught in schools, but also used in administrative documents.

Article III of the new constitution stated the adoption of Tamazight as the official national language of the country along with Arabic, and affirms also a full implementation, promotion and development in all its linguistic varieties in use nationwide.

The governement also mentioned the plan of the creation of the Algerian Academy of Tamazight language which will be dedicated to the Promotion of Tamazight language and its current status as an official national language.

Find below the official consent document.
