Boulemane, Morocco — Said M., an Amazigh language teacher, has initiated legal proceedings against the principal of his school after receiving disciplinary action for signing an internal official document using Tifinagh, the Amazigh script.
According to a statement he posted on Facebook, the teacher described the measure as an unlawful act of abuse, arguing that it contradicts the Royal Speeches, the Constitution of Morocco, and the Organic Law that enforces the official status of the Amazigh language.
He affirmed that the case will proceed through the courts to restore his dignity and to defend the linguistic and cultural rights guaranteed to Amazigh speakers. The teacher also stressed his right to express his identity within the educational institution, calling the disciplinary action a violation of both his rights and the national framework recognizing Amazigh as an official language.
