The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is listing Tamazight among its international language credit courses for the 2026-27 school year, giving diaspora learners a formal virtual pathway to study the language.

The board’s continuing education page lists Tamazight in the secondary and adult international languages programme, with virtual course options. A related OCDSB programme page says registration is open for fall 2026 international language credit courses, offered on Saturday mornings from September 26, 2026 to June 19, 2027.

For Amazigh families in Canada, the listing is a reminder that diaspora language work often depends on public education systems as much as on community associations. When Tamazight is available for credit, students can treat language learning not only as heritage preservation but also as part of their formal academic record.

Ottawa has a history of Amazigh community organizing, including earlier efforts to launch Tamazight classes. The 2026-27 course listing suggests that institutional space for the language remains present, even if access depends on registration numbers, scheduling and awareness among families.

The programme also places Tamazight alongside a wide range of other languages taught through international and Indigenous language education. For Amazigh parents and students, the next challenge is visibility: ensuring that eligible learners know the option exists before course deadlines pass.
