Activists Announce New Amazigh Political Party in Tunisia

Tunis – A new political party aimed at reviving the Amazigh identity of Tunisia has been announced on Monday, May 6th, by a group of Amazigh activists in Tunisia.

The committee has chosen, “Akal” which means land in the Tamazight language, as the name for their newly created party, united under the slogan of Sovereignty, Justice and Development.

The new party not only will defend the basic human rights being demanded by the Amazigh people of Tunisia but also fight for social justice, civil liberties and a fair distribution of wealth among all Tunisian citizens says Fedi Mnassri, Secretary General of ‘Akal’.

Fedi, also confirmed his party’s participation in the next legislative elections covering around 85% of the Tunisian states and announced ‘Samir al-Nafzi’ -president of the party- candidacy for the next presidential elections.
