Algiers — Algeria’s first ever daily newspaper in Amazigh language has been launched. The newspaper is named ‘Tighremt’ – the Amazigh word for Kasbah – and can be found in stores now.
The newspaper aims to enhance the presence of The Amazigh language in the national media across the nation using solely the Latin characters at the first stage.

In it’s first issue, Tighremt devoted nine pages to cover the ongoing popular movement protests in Algeria, while the remaining pages dealt with cultural and sports issues all related to the Kabyle region.
A kasbah, or variant spelling casbah or qasbah in English is a populated place – a city, town, village, or other agglomeration of Amazigh buildings where people live and work.
