Granada, Spain — September 4, 2025
The Dr. Leila Mezian Foundation has inaugurated the Amazigh Space at the historic Alhambra in Granada, a UNESCO World Heritage site, in honor of the late Dr. Leila Mezian Benjelloun. The initiative seeks to strengthen cultural ties between Morocco and Spain while showcasing the shared heritage of Amazigh and Andalusian civilizations.
The ceremony, held at Carmen de los Porcel, brought together distinguished figures including Bank of Africa president Othman Benjelloun, royal adviser André Azoulay, and Andalusian Culture Minister Patricia del Pozo Fernández.
Set to officially open in the spring, the 250-square-meter venue will host a permanent exhibition of Amazigh artifacts collected by Dr. Mezian over more than five decades. The collection highlights the historical, artistic, and cultural connections between Amazigh heritage and Andalusia, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore the deep-rooted links between North Africa and southern Spain.
This cultural space not only pays tribute to Dr. Mezian’s lifelong dedication to preserving Amazigh identity but also reinforces Granada’s role as a bridge of civilizations across the Mediterranean.
