AWN – According to a new genetic study conducted by the Science Journal finds No Arab ancestry DNA in the Andalus (Muslim Iberia), Andalusians were paternally North African Amazigh, maternally Iberians.
Scientists sequenced genomes of 271 ancient Iberians, then combined that information with a previously published data from 131 ancient individuals from Iberia.
“We reveal sporadic contacts between Iberia and North Africa by ~2500 BCE and, by ~2000 BCE, the replacement of 40% of Iberia’s ancestry and nearly 100% of its Y-chromosomes by people with Steppe ancestry.” says study.

“That’s crazy” is what David Reich said, a geneticist at Harvard Medical School and a co-author of the paper in Science. He said : “We double checked it because it was so weird.” Another striking result has been the detection of North African DNA based on study that was conducted on 3,500 years old Iberian woman. These findings suggest that people were moving into the Iberia peninsula from Morocco more than 3,000 years, way before the rise of the Roman Empire.

In addition, the scientists have found a huge growing amount of North African ancestry in skeletons from the Iron Age. North African ancestry increased in the Iberian peninsula even more after Romans took control.
