Imuhagh International organization denounce the racist attitudes with which the Libyan embassies treat their Tuareg nationals abroad.
Imuhagh International Youth Organization for Justice and Equality is an international NGO dedicated to the peaceful pursuit of human rights and fundamental freedoms for the Imunagh people of the Sahara known as the Tuareg.
Statetment;
We, NGO IMOUHAGH INTERNATIONAL for Justice and Transparency confirm to have received several calls from the family of Mr MOHMED ABRAHEM SAEDI, born on 15/01/1990 in HOON (Libya). Mr Mohmed Abrahem entered Pakistan in 2012, hired as a translator by a Libyan company.
Wanting to renew his passport, Mr Mohmed Abrahem went to the Libyan embassy in Islamabad (Pakistan). He faced verbal abuse in the form of insults by the chargé d’affaires and refusal to renew his passport on the grounds that he did not have the national identification number.
This identification number has been repeatedly denounced by our organization because it is used to discriminate against a particular community, the Tuareg. We have made several articles to that effect. There are more than 14,000 families affected by this institutionalized discrimination by the Libyan state. we have denounced these discriminatory practices in Libya, but we were far from thinking that in democratic states within consulates, these practices could be perpetrated.
As regards the particular case of Mr Mohmed Abrahem, we conducted an investigation and it is true that Mr Mohmed Abrahem suffered the type of discrimination described above. In support of his testimony, he provided video evidence of his time at the embassy. Silence and refusal to disclose consular authorities are not practices worthy of diplomatic representatives towards a national.
We draw the attention of the Pakistani Government, which has a compassionate and available practice towards its nationals abroad (we have seen this repeatedly here in the Pakistan Consulate in France) not to condone discrimination in their country, imported from Libya.
We also urge humanitarian organizations defending human rights to take an interest in the discriminations that are silenced by those responsible for eliminating them and to consider the special case of Mr MOHMED ABRAHEM in order to provide him with support necessary to allow it a dignified status.
