Rabat — The Ministry of National Education has issued an official circular addressed to principals of both public and private schools, urging them to organize educational and cultural activities to celebrate the Amazigh New Year, Yennayer 2976.
According to the circular, schools are encouraged to mark the occasion through activities that highlight Amazigh history, language, and cultural heritage. These may include workshops, artistic performances, exhibitions, and classroom discussions aimed at raising awareness among students about the significance of Yennayer as part of Morocco’s national identity.
The initiative comes within the broader framework of implementing Article 5 of the 2011 Constitution, which recognizes Tamazight as an official language of the Kingdom, and reflects ongoing efforts to integrate Amazigh culture into the educational system.
By institutionalizing the celebration of Yennayer within schools, the Ministry seeks to promote cultural diversity, strengthen students’ connection to Morocco’s plural heritage, and reinforce values of inclusivity and recognition of Amazigh identity across the country.
