Official: Algeria Names New Tizi Ouzou Stadium after Matoub Lounes

Algerian authority has officially adopted the public demand to name the newly built stadium in Tizi Ouzou in Kabylie region after icon Matoub Lounes.

The decision was made amid pressure from Amazigh activists in Kabylie who carried out a strong campaign on social media, as well as the endorsement of Millions of Matoub lounes’s fans across the globe.

Born on January 24, 1956 in the village of Taourirt Moussa in Kabylie. Lounes Matoub is the icon of the Amazigh music as well as the symbol of the Amazigh people struggle.

Lounes was assassinated On 25 June 1998 near his home town in Tizi Ouzou by masked gunmen, he was silenced for merely having the courage to express his feelings, thoughts and ideals as well as his vision as a free Amazigh thinker.
