The Tunisian government has issued a new set of postage stamps featuring Dihya, the Queen of the Amazigh in North Africa during the 7th century CE.
Dihya, or “Kahina” (seer) as Arab invaders use to call her, is an Amazigh queen and female warrior known to have fought and resisted the advancing Arab invasion, and even succeeded to push the Arab troops eastward beyond the borders of modern Libya.
Dihya died in the Aures Mountains (in modern Algeria) where she was also born, in combat in 702 CE fighting the Islamic army of Ibn Nu’aman.
