Rabat, Morocco – Dozens of survivors of the 2023 Al Haouz earthquake gathered outside Morocco’s Parliament on Wednesday, July 15, to demand the resolution of aid and compensation claims for families who say they have been excluded from government support programs.

The demonstration was organized by the National Coordination of Al Haouz Earthquake Victims, with protesters calling on authorities to address the cases of households that remain outside the list of beneficiaries nearly three years after the disaster.

Participants carried banners urging officials to ensure fair treatment for all eligible families, arguing that many affected households have been unable to rebuild their homes or receive the financial assistance promised after the earthquake.

Several protesters said the rally came after exhausting administrative and legal channels, including submitting complaints, appeals, and previous demonstrations, without receiving a final resolution to their cases.

The coordinating group called for the adoption of transparent and equitable criteria for processing aid applications to ensure equal treatment for all earthquake victims. It also urged authorities to launch an independent investigation into the management of the relief and compensation program, citing what it described as irregularities in the distribution process and calling for accountability where necessary.

Protesters vowed to continue peaceful demonstrations and pursue legal and institutional avenues until all eligible families receive the financial support and compensation needed to rebuild their homes.
