Nadia Moussaoui, an Amazigh-language teacher from the Bouira region known online as “Tamazight Moussaoui,” is awaiting a court decision after Algerian prosecutors requested a two-year prison sentence in a case tied to a Facebook post about the July 2 legislative election.

According to reports from Kabyle and Algerian outlets, Moussaoui appeared before the court in Imchedallen on September 16. The case has been placed under deliberation, with a verdict expected on September 22. Defense lawyers argued that the post should be treated as protected opinion rather than a criminal offense.

The case has drawn attention in Kabylie because Moussaoui is widely associated with cultural and educational work. Kabyle.com described her as a teacher who has used social media to share Tamazight lessons, cultural documentation and material connected to Kabyle memory and traditions.

The prosecution reportedly relies on provisions of Algeria’s electoral law, while the defense has framed the matter as a freedom-of-expression issue. For Amazigh cultural observers, the case is especially sensitive because it involves a language educator whose public profile was built around teaching and preserving Tamazight rather than partisan mobilization.

The September 22 decision will be watched by rights advocates and Kabyle civil society voices who see the case as part of a wider climate of pressure on teachers, activists and online commentators in the region.
