Amazigh-language teachers in Bouarfa have opened a new front in Morocco’s continuing debate over how Tamazight is being integrated into public schools.

According to Le Monde Amazigh, the regional secretariat of Amazigh-language teachers affiliated with the National Education Union (CDT) began an open sit-in, including an overnight stay, outside the provincial directorate of the Ministry of National Education in Bouarfa on September 22.

The union body framed the action as part of a continuing protest program and said it was demanding a response to a professional file that includes certification, training, fair administrative management and working conditions that preserve the dignity of Amazigh-language teachers.

The Bouarfa action follows a series of recent teacher mobilizations in different Moroccan provinces, where Amazigh-language educators have complained that official commitments to expand Tamazight teaching are not always matched by staffing, inspection, timetables and classroom support on the ground.

For Amazigh education advocates, the Bouarfa sit-in is another sign that the rollout of Tamazight in schools is now moving from broad constitutional language into more practical disputes over workload, training rights and institutional recognition.

The teachers’ secretariat said it remained committed to its demands and would continue its protest program until there is a response from education authorities.
