Brussels – After the Sakharov Prize nomination, the imprisoned leader of Rif Hirak movement has again been nominated by “Friends of Rif” Group for the 2019 Václav Havel Human Rights Prize. The winner will be announced in September of 2019.
The Václav Havel Human Rights Prize is an annual €60,000, awarded each year by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in partnership with the Václav Havel Library and the Charta 77 Foundation to reward outstanding civil society action in the defence of human rights in Europe and beyond.
Nasser Zefzafi is a leader in the Hirak protest movement, which spearheaded protets in Morocco’s northern Rif region in 2017. Nasser is currently serving a 20 years in Morocco prison on charges of “plotting to undermine the security of the state”. [ads2]
