Rif-Morocco | Moroccan Forces intervened violently yesterday, Monday 21, 2015 using teargas, and batons to break up a demonstration in the Rif Region. where More than 100 Amazigh activists had gathered to commemorate the battle of Annual, on its 94th anniversary which was fought on July 22, 1921, at Annual in Rif region , between the Spanish Army and Amazigh combatants of the Rif region during the Rif War. The Spanish suffered a major military defeat, almost always referred to by the Spanish as the Disaster of Annual, which led to major political crises and a redefinition of Spanish colonial policy toward the Rif.
Large numbers of Moroccan Forces in full riot gear surrounded the 100 protesters at the start of their protest march. The law enforcement objected to a poster with the slogan “Rif liberation: battle of freedom and existence ” and sought to confiscate banners and poster as well as Amazigh & Rif Flags because of their alleged provocation, Several demonstrators were injured, some seriously, and many were also detained and taken into custody. Journalists were among those detainedand, and the police have initiated investigations relating to assault, libel, and resisting law enforcement officers. In fact, it was the Moroccan Forces who reacted with extreme violence against a peaceful demonstration.
