The European Union’s Copernicus Sentinel-3 has released satellite images of a ‘mega-drought’ affecting the vegetation in Morocco.

The Sentinel3 satellites captured two photos on 14 February 2021 (left) and 13 February 2022 (right) to demonstrate an almost complete lack of vegetation in the same map locations as a result of the lack of rainfall.

Morocco has been suffering from one of the worst droughts in decades. Winter rainfall levels in 2021-2022 were 64 percent lower than the historical average, and Moroccan reservoirs are just 33.2 percent full on average.
