Eighty seven years ago today on February 13, 1933, a massive battle known as Bougafer began in Southeastern Morocco.
The Battle of Bougafer, remains one of the most memorable historical events of the Moroccan Amazigh resistance against colonizers. 87 years ago, while invading the Moroccan southeast, the French army had to face bold fighters of the Aït Atta tribes led by Assou Obasslam., who long refused to surrender.
These brave men and women had positioned themselves in the Bougafer mountains in the high Atlas, which are familiar to them yet inaccessible to the enemy. The French had to launch aerial attacks to put an end to this opposition, that lasted more than a month.

Today, the Rock band Meteor Airlines originating from the same region, pay tribute to the bravery of their ancestors and to the victims of this tragic memory. “The song Warru is a celebration of the values carried in the genes of the Amazighs, which means Free men. In 13 February 1933, the desire to enjoy this freedom was expressed through weapons. In 13 February 2020, we leniently express it through our music, " said the band members.
Warru is a journey through space and time. The band tries to capture the drama of the consequences and the beauty of the motivations. The inutility of violence and the importance of holding on to one’s homeland. The absurdity of the past and the hope of the future. In fact, this ambivalence of emotions is what defines the intrinsic quality of the track and extends its
perception to multidimensional possibilities.
The songs of the collective memory sung in 1933, refined in 2020 and the archived images of the facts, layered on an original music give a daring aspect to Meteor Airlines, who aim to preserve the Amazigh legacy and artistic heritage via this song.
