In the dynamic realm of modern education, a groundbreaking platform has been introduced, aimed to transform the preservation and promotion of Morocco’s Amazigh cultural heritage.
The Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRCAM) has launched an innovative online platform named “MOOC-IRCAM,” dedicated to teaching the Amazigh language. This launch, celebrated on the 13th anniversary of the Amazigh language’s official recognition in Morocco, brought together scholars and language advocates in Rabat. It marks a significant milestone in the journey that began with the enactment of Organic Law 26-16 in 2019, aimed at integrating the Amazigh language into education and other crucial public sectors.
Ahmed Boukous, director of IRCAM, underscored the importance of this initiative, highlighting the collaborative efforts of national and international researchers to overcome the challenges in Amazigh language education. A major issue, he noted, is the shortage of qualified teachers.
Developed over four years, the platform offers free access to learning the three main Amazigh language variants: Tarifit, Tamazight, and Tachelhit. Siham Boulaknadel, director of CEISIC, pointed out that this initiative represents a significant advancement in the digital education of the Amazigh language.
This project marks a milestone in digital education, making Amazigh language learning accessible to a broad audience and addressing the growing institutional demand.
