Granada – Queen Letizia of Spain today opened an Amazigh exhibition corner inside the world famous Alhambra Palace site, held under the theme of “La Granada ziri and the Berber universe” aiming to showcase the Amazigh culture and the great influence it had in the Iberian Peninsula during the al-Andalus era.
The exhibition will continue until April 21, 2020. During this period, visitors can find more than 300 antique peaces Amazigh, Berber items including coins, jewelry, weapons, clothing, and many more, donated mostly by Morocco and Laila Mezian Foundation and the Archaeological Museums of Algeria.
The Ziriden or the Ziri is an Amazigh dynasty that ruled various parts of North Africa and Spain, including Granada. The name stems from the founder of the dynasty Ziri Manad, the name ‘Ziri’ means moonlight in Amazigh language.
