Algiers — Algeria’s Army Chief of Staff Ahmed Gaed Salah has launched today a furious attack on the demonstrators who brandish the Amazigh flag during protests accusing them for trying to infiltrate the ongoing demonstrations and threaten national unity.

“Waving other flags other than the official Algerian flag during demonstrations by a very small minority is a very sensitive issue and reveals their hidden desire to infiltrate the Algerian protests, “said the Deputy Minister of National Defense during a speech in Bechar.

“Algeria has only one flag for which Millions have sacrificed their lives efend it. It is the symbol of our sovereignty, independence and popular integrity, “added Gaid Salah.

“There is no need to play with the feelings of the Algerian people. As a result, orders had been given to the security forces to “strike with an iron hand all those who seek to tamper with the nation’s security,” added the Chief of Staff.

Gaid’s statement came after another massive nationwide protests that drew tens of thousands of protesters carrying Algerian and Amazigh flags to maintain pressure on the old guard in government to leave office a couple month after the country’s president of two decades was forced to resign.
