Members of the Tuareg diaspora in Europe gathered outside the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Paris on Saturday, June 20, 2026, to denounce what organizers described as massacres and systematic abuses targeting Tuareg civilian in Azawad.

The rally, organized by a collective of Tuareg diaspora associations, focused on the role participants say is being played by Russia’s Africa Corps and Wagner-linked forces alongside local allies in Mali. Protesters accused those forces of supporting repression in Azawad and of participating in grave violations against Tuareg, Arab and Fulani civilians.

According to the organizers’ statement, demonstrators condemned the alleged indiscriminate targeting of civilians with drones, policies they described as ethnic cleansing, scorched-earth tactics aimed at destroying livelihoods, persecution directed at Tuareg, Fulani and Arab communities, and the reported use of cluster munitions.

Participants carried photographs that they said showed people subjected to torture and others wounded in Malian and Russian drone strikes. Amazigh World News has not independently verified the images, but the allegations reflect wider concerns raised by rights observers and international media about abuses and collective punishment affecting communities in northern Mali after recent military escalations.

Journalist and Sahara specialist Alissa Eliki also gave testimony at the gathering, according to material shared by participants. Her remarks focused on what she described as ethnic cleansing currently being carried out by Malian forces, supported by Russian troops, against Tuareg, Arab and Fulani populations in Azawad.

The Paris demonstration comes as Mali’s conflict has entered a more volatile phase. Recent reporting has documented renewed fighting involving the Malian state, Russian-backed forces, jihadist groups and Tuareg-led armed movements, while civilian communities in the north continue to face displacement, reprisals and insecurity.

For the Tuareg diaspora, the rally was intended to move the crisis beyond the Sahel and into European public debate. By gathering in front of Russia’s embassy, organizers framed the violence in Azawad not only as a local conflict but also as part of a broader struggle over foreign military influence and accountability in the Sahel.
