A national seminar in Azrou has renewed debate over how Morocco should evaluate the public impact of its Amazigh officialization policy, including the government’s billion-dirham commitment to the file.
Mohieddine Hajjaj, a member of the National Rally of Independents’ political bureau and national coordinator of the Amazigh Action Front, said the officialization process has seen important progress in recent years, but argued that spending and implementation should now be assessed through measurable effects across sectors.
The discussion reflects a wider shift in Amazigh advocacy. After years in which recognition and legal activation dominated the agenda, activists and public-policy actors are increasingly asking how the policy is changing schools, courts, administrations, media, signage, digital services, and everyday access for Tamazight speakers.
The Azrou meeting, organized around achievements and prospects for officialization, points to the next stage of the debate: whether Morocco can translate budget lines and institutional measures into visible language equality in public services. That question remains central for communities that still experience delays between constitutional promises and administrative reality.
