Al Hoceima is hosting the eighth edition of the Bahur Poetry gathering at Cala Bonita beach, turning one of the Rif’s best-known summer spaces into a venue for Moroccan poetry, music, honors and children’s cultural workshops.
Le Monde Amazigh reported that the event, organized by the House of Poetry in Tetouan and the provincial culture directorate in Al Hoceima, runs from July 30 through August 1, 2026. The program includes poetry readings, musical and artistic segments, tributes and workshops in poetry and visual art for children.
The opening program includes a tribute to Hicham El Amraoui, a writer and creative figure from the Moroccan diaspora, alongside readings by Abdullah Dada El Ghazawi, Idriss Allouch and Abdessamad Ajouaou. The evening is presented by writer Samira Azhari, according to the same report.
The Bahur Poetry format has previously moved through coastal Moroccan cities such as Oued Laou, M’diq, Larache, Fnideq, Saidia, Nador and Tangier. Bringing the event to Al Hoceima links the summer tourism season with a cultural program that treats poetry as a public art rather than a closed literary activity.
For the Rif, the event’s location matters. Cala Bonita is not a conventional auditorium; it is a beach space where local families, visitors and diaspora returnees gather during the summer. Holding readings and workshops there gives the event a broader community reach and places cultural programming in a setting closely tied to Al Hoceima’s social life.
The festival is not described as exclusively Amazigh-language programming, but it is relevant to Amazigh cultural coverage because of its Rif setting, its diaspora component and its role in widening access to literary culture in northern Morocco.
