Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication has extended the deadline for submissions to the 46th Hassan II Prize for Manuscripts, keeping the 2026 call open until Friday, October 2.
The ministry said the extension is intended to give more owners of manuscripts and historical documents time to participate. The prize covers Moroccan manuscript heritage written in Arabic, Amazigh or Hassani expression, making it a relevant opportunity for families, collectors and local custodians who hold Amazigh-language or Amazigh-related documentary material.
The call includes two main categories. The first covers manuscript books, including scholarly works, notebooks, personal memoirs, collections of legal opinions or letters, poetry collections, music notebooks and other written materials, whether preserved as loose pages or bound volumes. The second category covers manuscript documents such as royal decrees, official or personal correspondence, notarial records, accounting documents, scholarly licenses and genealogy certificates.
According to the ministry notice, regional appreciation prizes are valued at 30,000 dirhams, while a national grand prize for the best manuscript selected from regional winners is valued at 100,000 dirhams.
For Amazigh heritage advocates, the extension is significant because private archives often remain outside public research networks. A longer submission window may help surface documents linked to local history, language, customary law, poetry, music and memory, especially in regions where written Amazigh heritage has been preserved through family holdings rather than formal institutions.
