Rabat – A total of 107 activists from ‘Hirak’ Rif and Jerada were reportedly released from prison Tuesday after receiving royal pardons at the request of the Morocco king on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.

All activists were detained on several occasions in connection with the Rif and Jerada protests that took place in Morocco’s northern Rif region throughout 2017.

The Rif Hirak peaceful protests started after the death of fishmonger Mouhcine Fikri. His fatal crushing in a garbage truck while attempting to recover confiscated swordfish had ignited protests that crystallized into the Hirak protest movement. [ads1]
