Morocco’s Government Announces MAD 2 Billion Pledge for Amazigh Officialization

Morocco’s prime minister, Fatima Zahra Mansouri, has announced a planned MAD 2 billion envelope to support implementation of Amazigh’s official status during the government’s term.

The commitment was presented during a joint sitting of parliament devoted to the government programme, according to Amazigh World. The announcement places a specific public-finance figure alongside a constitutional commitment that has often been discussed in broader terms of language policy.

The report says the money is intended to support implementation through integrated public policies with defined objectives. It did not provide a detailed spending breakdown, timetable, or a list of ministries responsible for delivery.

That leaves the crucial questions of implementation open: how funding will be allocated across education, public administration, media, cultural production and digital services; what measurable targets will be used; and how progress will be reported publicly. For Amazigh speakers and advocates, those details will determine whether the pledge produces a more consistent everyday presence for Tamazight in public life.

Officials described the measure as part of Morocco’s institutional and constitutional commitments to Amazigh language and culture. The announcement is a commitment, not evidence that the funds have already been disbursed; Amazigh World News will follow any published programme, budget documents or implementation measures.
