Agadir is set to host the 21st edition of the Timitar Festival from July 23 to July 25, 2026, in a program that once again places Amazigh artists at the center of a wider dialogue with music from Morocco, Africa and beyond.
Organizers say this year’s edition will run under the theme “Amazigh artists welcome world music”, with performances spread across Place Al Amal and the Theatre de Verdure. According to the official announcement carried by Maroc.ma from MAP, the festival remains free and open to the public and aims to highlight both Amazigh heritage and contemporary musical exchange.
The published lineup points to a mix of established Amazigh and Moroccan performers alongside regional and international guests. Reports on the announced program list artists including Oudaden, Fatima Tabaamrant, Fatima Tihihite, Hamid El Kasri, Najat Aatabou, Ragheb Alama and Mauritanian singer Malouma, among others. Secondary coverage also notes that Ahwach troupes are expected across all three nights, reinforcing the festival’s grounding in southern Moroccan Amazigh traditions.
Timitar has long held a distinct place in Morocco’s cultural calendar because it frames Amazigh music not as a niche feature, but as the host tradition for a larger international exchange. The festival, launched in 2004 in Agadir, has built its identity around that idea and returns to its usual summer slot this year after its 20th edition was held in December 2025.
For Amazigh audiences and cultural observers, this year’s edition will be worth watching not only for the headline names but also for how the program continues to position Agadir and the Souss region as a public stage for Amazigh expression. If the announced schedule holds, Timitar 2026 will offer another high-visibility platform for Ahwach, Tashelhit-linked performance traditions and artists whose work connects local roots to broader regional sounds.
