Welsh novelist, Rob Edmunds, to publish two new novel books, about the Numidian Amazigh king Masinissa and Carthaginian aristocrat Sophonisba.

Firstly, I would like to say a big thank you to Amazigh World News for allowing me to announce my books to its readership. I feel both of my books have been written for a wide audience as the story they tell is an epic and historically enormously significant one but it is most relevant to Amazigh readers and the Amazigh community and I hope this announcement will help the books reach the readership who will take greatest interest and pride in them.

My name is Rob Edmunds, i’m a writer from Swansea in Wales. I have no connection with North Africa or the Amazigh people but when I started to learn about the story of Masinissa (or Massinissa) I felt a real connection with it and I thought I would try to write something about him. It took me a long time to do, about five years altogether. Recently, via social media I’ve met some Amazigh people who have been very supportive of my efforts and have really given me that final motivation to get the books published.

MASINISSA
Coin of Masinissa, 203-148 BC

I feel the story of Masinissa is a much neglected one in the world beyond North Africa and it’s hard, given its importance, to understand why. For instance, I had never heard of him until I came across his story accidentally. I suspect the readers of this publication will know his story very well.
The part of it that I’m telling is the period of time he was involved in the Second Punic War between Rome and Carthage, roughly 213BC to 202BC. He entered the war as an ally of Carthage and finished it as a very important ally of Rome. Other historical figures who feature in the books are the polymath Archimedes, the famous Carthaginian general Hannibal Barca, the Roman consul Scipio Africanus and the Carthaginian noblewoman Sophonisba.

I hope the publication of these books will give a boost to people’s knowledge of this heroic and important historical figure and will be enjoyed by people who read them, especially those of Amazigh heritage. I would like to say a final thank you to everyone who has made contact with me and who have been so kind. It means a great deal to me.

Both books are currently available online as e-books by visiting the following link  , their respective paperback books will be available from retailers this coming August.

Rob Edmunds is a writer from Wales who has written a couple of novels about the Numidian king Masinissa and the Carthaginian aristocrat Sophonisba. Masinissa became the first King of a unified Numidia and turned it into the breadbasket of Rome. He is still revered today across North Africa and the Sahel region as the founding father of the Amazigh people. I intend to continue writing novels of historical interest. I hope you enjoy the ones I've already written!
