Algeria’s first International Festival of Rock Art opened in Djanet on 20 October, placing the rock-art heritage of Tassili n’Ajjer at the centre of a five-day cultural programme.

According to Algeria Press Service (APS), Culture and Arts Minister Malika Bendouda opened the festival and inaugurated exhibitions devoted to rock art. A following-day APS report said the opening programme also included a festive parade and artistic performance celebrating the cultural heritage of Tassili n’Ajjer, attended by Bendouda and Djanet governor M’Hamed Moumen.

The event was scheduled for 20–24 October. APS’s reports establish the opening activities, dates and officials present, but do not provide a full programme, list of participating artists or a post-festival account. Those details should be verified before publication.
