Nador hosted the first international conference on Amazigh literature and language from July 9 to 12, bringing together writers, researchers, and cultural actors under the theme ‘We live through our language.’

The event was organized by the Amazigh Writers Association, Adlis Amazigh, in partnership with the Basque association Garabide and Plazara. Its program was designed to open discussion on the state and future of Amazigh language and literary production, while drawing on international experience in publishing, creativity, translation, and technology.

The conference’s location in Nador gives it added significance for Rif cultural life. The region has long been central to Amazigh activism, oral expression, and diasporic cultural production, but writers and language workers continue to face structural challenges around publishing channels, readership, education, and standardization.

By combining literary debate with practical fields such as translation and technology, the conference points to a wider question for Amazigh cultural policy: how to move from symbolic recognition toward sustainable institutions that can support writers, publishers, teachers, and digital creators.
